The Vertical Abrasion Simulator can test the abrasion of fretting between vertical fuel rod tube and spacer grid assembly under the condition of high temperature and pressure at the inside of a nuclear reactor. Also, this machine can control contact condition between the fuel rod tube and spacer grid assembly.

직립형 마멸 시험기는 시혐편의 핵 원자로의 내부 환경과 같이 고온 고압 하에서 시험편의 마찰을 통한 부식에 대한 데이터 취득이 가능하도록 설계되어 있다. 또한 이 장비는 연료봉과 스페이서 그리드 사이의 접촉 조건을 제어할 수 있다. 시험 환경은 상온대기, 상온수중, 고온 고압의 환경이 모두 모사 가능하다.
