Overview

Introduction

Korea Aerospace Research Institute is a national aerospace research institute established to develop national development through aerospace technology development. Despite its short history, it has become a world-class aerospace research institute through continuous research and development efforts.

In the field of aviation, we have developed tiltrotor aircraft, stratospheric solar unmanned aerial vehicles, and are developing future aviation technologies such as electric-powered vertical takeoff and landing personal aircraft (OPPAV), which is attracting attention as the core of the next transportation revolution.

In the field of satellites, we are developing and operating the Arirang satellite, which conducts precise earth observation in low Earth orbit, and the Clairvoyant satellite, which conducts weather, ocean, and atmospheric environment observation and communication monitoring in geostationary orbit, and contributing to the development of the domestic satellite industry by developing next-generation medium-sized satellites and transferring technology to the private sector.

In the space launch vehicle sector, we successfully developed the Nuri, a Korean launch vehicle capable of placing 1.5-ton satellites into low Earth orbit with our own technology, and are enhancing our self-powered satellite launch capabilities and space transportation capabilities by promoting the Nuri upgrade project and the development of next-generation launch vehicles to improve reliability and foster the domestic launch vehicle industry.

In addition, we developed Korea's first lunar orbiter, Danuri, to open the era of full-scale space exploration in Korea. To lead the 4th Industrial Revolution using space technology, we are in the process of building the Korea Satellite Navigation System (KPS) to provide stable and ultra-precise PNT (Positioning, Navigation and Timing) information services, and we are researching and developing platform technologies that converge and analyze big data and artificial intelligence of images taken by satellites and drones.
