Mast Raising Equipment(MRE)

The purpose of the Mast Raising Equipment (MRE) is to provide a suite of masts capable of raising sensors and antenna above water when the submarine is operating at periscope depth.
In addition the Snorkel mast allows the diesels to be run and fresh air to be taken into the submarine while operating at snorkeling depth.
