 SIMCO's magnetic pulleys provide a simple, effective means of magnetic separation and protection in normal material handling conveyor processes- without altering the present system. You can select a pulley that will assure positive separation of ferrous materials at belt speeds as high as 150 m/s.

TWO - COIL DESIGN PRODUCES DEEPER MAGNETIC FIELD

SIMCO's two-coil electromagnetic pulley design produces a deeper, far more effective magnetic
 field, size for size, than any three-coil unit. This is especially important on heavily loaded conveyors, but even with normal burdens the powerful field of a SIMCO's electromagnetic pulley blankets the load and assures more positive protection.

In certain applications where uniform belt loadings are present, such as in the processing operations, of slag, magnetic iron ore or in cobbing operations, a three-coil or four-coil pulley may be desirable. SIMCO's engineers will be glad to consult with you and recommend the correct pulley for any such application. In requesting this free service, be sure to provide as much of the following information as possible.

 1. Description of material
 2. Width of belt ; troughed or flat
 3. Speed of belt
 4. Max. and min. size of material
 5. Capacity in cubic meter/hr. or tons/hr.
 6. Angle of conveyor incline

PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

 Fig. 1 - For purification and tramp iron protection, magnetic pulley is installed as head pulley in belt conveyor handling bulk materials. As mixed material is attached toward face of pulley, then carried around past the influence of the magnet for discharge.
 Non-magnetic material passes over pulley in normal trajectory, providing continuous, automatic separation.

SIMCOs builds a complete line of magnetic pulleys for removal of tramp iron in bulk materials on conveyor belts. Magnetic fields are designed to provide full magnetic penetration of burdens carried on conveyors in normal operation,. The following procedures will enable you to select the right pulley.
Three factors must be known ; width of conveyor belt, speed of belt in meter per minute and capacity in cubic meter per hour. With the known factors, the required pulley size can be selected directly from Table 1. using the outlined procedure that applies to your conveyor system.

FOR NORMAL SEPARATION

1. Select belt width column, in Table 1. This will be pulley width.
2. In width column, locate capacity equal or next larger than required. Horizontal reference in first column indicates diameter required.
3. For best separation, belt speed should not exceed recommended speed indicated in last column for size pulley selected.

EXAMPLE :
1200 mm width conveyor belt
Capacity : 930 cu. mt per hr.
Selected pulley size :
900 mm dia. x 1200 mm width
Belt speed : 110 m/min.

FOR FASTER BELT SPEEDS

1. Determine difference in mpm between required belt speed and recommended speed of size selected.
2. Add 1/2 of difference to recommended speed to obtain corrected speed factor.
3. Diameter of pulley will correspond to this factor.

EXAMPLE :
1200mm width conveyor belt
Capacity : 930 cu. mt per hr.
Required speed : 130 m/min.
Recommended speed for 900 mm dia. pulley : 110 m/m.
130 - 110 = 20 ;
110 + 20/2 = 120 corrected speed
A 1050 mm dia. pulley should be used.

FOR INCLINED CONVEYOR

Belt convetors inclined upward on the approach to the magnetic head pulley can be operated at faster belt speeds and increased capacities. The table below gives correction factors to be used with Table I in selecting correct size of pulley.

1. Multiply capacity in cu. mt. per hr. by correction factor for degree of inclination to obtain corrected capacity factor.
2. Multiply required belt speed by correction factor for degrees of inclination to obtain corrected speed factor.
3. Using corrected factors for capacity and speed, select required pulley size according to the procedures outlined above.

EXAMPLE :
1200 mm width conveyor belt
Capacity : 930 cu. mt. per hr.
Required speed : 130 m/min.
Conveyor inclination : 15°
.865 x 930 = 804.45 corrected capacity factor
.865 x 130 = 112.45 corrected speed factor
Selected pulley dia. : 750 mm recommended
speed : 100 m/min.
(112.45-100) ÷ 2 + 100 = 106.225
A 900 mm dia. pulley should be used.
