Description

The remotely controllable audio instruction device for the visually handicapped
is a traffic safety device that must be installed according to the Act on Promotion of the Transportation Convenience of Mobility Disadvantaged Persons. Operated by either the buttons on it or a remote control possessed by visually handicapped people, the device gives audio instructions on the location of traffic lights as well as the state and direction of the signal.

Components

ㆍThe audio instruction device is composed of two buttons: one for giving the location of the traffic lights at intersections and another for giving the state of the signal.

Legal background

ㆍArticle 7 of the Act on Guarantee of Promotion of Convenience of Persons with Disabilities, the Aged, Pregnant Women, etc.

ㆍArticle 9 of the Act on Promotion of the Transportation Convenience of Mobility Disadvantaged Persons

ㆍStandard on Audio Devices for the Visually Handicapped by the National Police Agency

Reception distance

ㆍAudio instruction of location: Twice of the crosswalk width or 15 m (to guide the user to the waiting line of the crosswalk)

ㆍAudio instruction of signal: The crosswalk width or 10 m. Errors caused by the properties of radio waves are acceptable.

Features of the audio instruction device

ㆍUser location–based operation

The wave reception distance of the remote is regulated in 15 levels, activating the only audio instruction device positioned within a certain distance. This prevents the operation of other audio instruction devices out of the range that might cause    confusion to a visually handicapped user.

ㆍAdoption of a free voltage SMPS module (AC 85 ~ 275V)

The free voltage SMPS module installed in the device is designed to respond to any electrical changes of a traffic light. It minimizes the electrical shock applied to the traffic light and ensures stable operation even when a residual time indicator is also installed in the same traffic light.

ㆍPrevention of repetitive operation

Even if a button stays pressed down due to its mechanical error, the audio instruction is not repeated, which does not cause repetitive noise nor complaints about excessive noise.

ㆍSynchronization with traffic lights for pedestrians (optional)

Manually operated traffic lights for pedestrians can also provide signal changes and audio instructions triggered by a remote control. One button can activate both functions.
